“Catch Me”: The story and art of Nicholas Kontaxis in Greece for the first time

By Greek Association against Epilepsy Newsroom

The exhibition “Catch Me” brings to Greece for the first time the work and story of Nicholas Kontaxis, an internationally acclaimed Greek-American artist and member of the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, who has transformed life’s challenges into an explosive artistic language full of power, emotion, and optimism.

Nicholas, living with serious physical and developmental difficulties and having experienced numerous epileptic seizures, uses art as his sole means of expression, creating large-scale works that convey a universal message of resilience and inspiration.

At the heart of the exhibition stands the iconic trampoline artwork, which was transformed from a rehabilitation tool into a canvas, symbolizing solidarity and new beginnings, inviting the audience to see life with a fresh perspective and courage.

As Fleurette Karadonti, Chair of the Board of the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation, emphasizes:
“The Catch Me exhibition once again highlights that art is a universal language. Nicholas Kontaxis’ work transcends boundaries and limitations, speaking directly to the heart of the viewer. It is not merely a painting exhibition; it is an ode to courage, creativity, and the unparalleled power of perseverance.”

Equally moving is the statement from the artist’s mother and representative, Krisann Kontaxis, who is in Athens for the exhibition:
“Catch Me is Nicholas’ dream to share his art with Greece, the land of his ancestors. It is our invitation to the public to join hands and see how creativity can become a refuge, hope, and way of life. Nicholas cannot speak with words, but through his art, he expresses what words often fail to convey.”

The Catch Me exhibition is complemented by accessible activities and educational programs, in collaboration with the Nevronas team and the Leonteio School of Nea Smyrni, enhancing the audience’s experience and highlighting the importance of inclusion and empathy through art.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore a replica of Nicholas’ authentic studio and participate in workshops using materials and techniques inspired by his work, such as spatulas, coffee, and spices, offering a unique, hands-on engagement with his art.

Catch Me is not just an exhibition—it is a powerful voice that unites art with life, delivering a global message of acceptance, courage, and creative strength.
