Ceramics workshops explore the art of Nicholas Kontaxis

The Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation is organizing a workshop on the occasion of the exhibition “Catch Me.”

By Athinorama Team

The Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation, drawing inspiration from the temporary exhibition “Catch Me” by Nicholas Kontaxis, is organizing, in collaboration with ceramicist Elpida Kourtzi, three standalone ceramic workshops for adults and teenagers over 15 years old, which will take place on Fridays, May 2, 9, and 16.

Together with Elpida Kourtzi, we will explore the artist’s vibrant palette and, inspired by his unique works, create patterns and color compositions on ceramic plates and bowls through this hands-on experience.

At the beginning of each session, after a brief introduction to the art of ceramics and how it directly connects with painting, participants will be introduced to some of the artist’s most characteristic works. Choosing from a wide range of colors, they will knead fire-colored with white clay. They will then spread these colors with almost dance-like movements, creating patterns and blends on a sheet of white clay, which they will shape into a plate or bowl using only their fingers.

After the session, participants will receive their ceramic creations within 7–15 working days, fired and glazed, in a special gift package, as a keepsake of their creative experience.
